Comments on 'Sarah Brightman - O Mio Babbino Caro' |
- She looks like an alien...Why did she sing this, when she's
not an opera singer? She is a modern Florence Jenkins, but little beter...
- Then don't call her an opera singer. "Opera singer" refers
to singers who actually perform in opera. A lot of disagreements and discussions would go away if POPera fans stop calling POPera singers "opera singers" and treat popera as a different genre. And I am not comparing her to Callas or Caballe, but to singers who perform in top opera theaters today - to whom you don't want to listen to. Why not? Aren't you at all curious?
- Look, if i wanted to listen to those singers, i would visit
their pages and listen to them.
BUT, i'm choosing to give the divine Ms Brightman my time and listen to how she interprets the music for herself. She is a Diva in many ways, and i love her for that.
Comparing her to Callas and Caballe would be foolish.....but this girl has an energy all her own, and if you're not a fan, then i guess you just won't ever get her magic like we who adore her do.
- @lastalot - she is undoubtedly talented, but she is not an
opera singer. And no, she is not younger than opera singers: she is almost the same age as Renee Fleming, older than Angela Gheorghiu, Anna Netrebko among others, and I am not even talking about young singers like Ailyn Perez. Listen to them; also listen to how a 21-year old Nadine Sierra sang this aria when she was only 17. Others too. As to whether commentators can sing - some can; but as others aren't paid to sing, it's irrelevant.
- I am just disgusted with the level of disdain with most of
the comments on here towards the very talented Brightman.
Why is everyone picking her to shreds? Because she is alot younger than other opera singers? Because she's flirted wth the pop charts? Or probably because she looks better and can sing better than any of the "commentators" on here, who couldn't reach a high note to save their lives.
If u don't appreciate what Sarah does, the leave her pages. Find something else to listen to
- @tenaciousgirl - I think people honestly don't know better
and have no real frame of reference. In addition to what readhead said about some people not being able to tell the difference, many people just haven't been exposed to opera at all. Since they haven't heard the names of real opera singers, they feel these singers aren't "famous". All they hear here is a pleasant voice - much better than pop singers they listen to - hitting the notes and sounding pleasant and singing beautiful music.
- This was horrible. Horrible. Horrible.
And her vibrato?
Equally horrible.
- @tenaciousgirl, The people who defend her just don't have
the ear to distinguish a fine opera singer from a pop diva like Brightman. And you're right, the non-classically trained won't have any voice left in a couple of years. Some of them, like Charlotte Church, don't even learn how to sing anything correctly. Listening to her gulp for breath every few measures is awful.
- Ooh, and for those people who keep voting me down for giving
advice to someone who claims to be an "opera" singer, but cannot even take a breath right. I am a classical singer in training. A lyric soprano.
- @redhead529 I just don't understand why people keep
defending her. This is not even such a difficult aria to perform, but she just butchered it. She can't keep a note well below soprano C,so why do this people call her a soprano? She is not even a Soubrette. :/
I agree, the people who are not classically trained should refrain from singing opera. Not only do they look bad, but they won't have any voice left in a couple of years.
- Excelente actuación de O Mio Babbino Caro,,,me gustaria
oirla cantar Barcarola de la opera los cuentos Holfman
- @chaconazo7 - does it matter if redhead529 can sing better
or not? I saw your criticizing Renee Fleming who is actually one of the best sopranos today singing in top opera theaters like the Met and La Scala. Can you sing better than Renee Fleming? What a hypocritical comment!
- @chaconazo7 - there is more to singing an opera aria than
"hitting the notes". "O mio babbino caro" is not a difficult aria in terms of just "hitting the notes". Not like Casta Diva/w cabaletta or Sempre Libera or Der Holle Rache. What makes "O mio babbino caro" difficult is the expression needed, the nuances. A singer need to show that this is really a heartfelt plea of a young girl in love, be a young girl. Sarah is completely expressionless (ignoring other flaws).
- @ST3WARTcee & Chel0751L: Have you listened to Renee Fleming
or Angela Gheorghiu? How about any soprano that actually sings this role on stage?
And STWARTcee - this is not a song. This is an aria of from opera Gianni Schicchi. So it's not enough to just hit the notes, a singer actually needs to express, to show that she is a young girl pleading with her father to help her to marry the boy she loves.
- @liysopr. Soprano simply refers to voice range, so sure, she
is a soprano, she has high voice. She is not an operatic soprano though. She has never sung in live operas and she doesn't have the technique to do so. And no, she did not start as an opera singer but as a musicals' actress/singer. There is a huge difference between musicals and operas - musicals are amplified not to mention not as demanding vocally. She has never sung in live operas.
- I'll take Maria Callas and Monica Naranjo, any day over
this. Oh, and don't get me started with Charlotte Church or Andrea Bocelli; ugh!. These 3 are in the same category; their sound is sooo sacharine-sweet and commercial, like I said before; UGGHHHH!!!!! But, that's just my personal taste, I think "to each individual his own". Some people like Sara over Maria Callas and vice-versa!, thank God for a free world!!!. From the living legends I'll take Monica Naranjo over anyone. ; )
- Being beautiful has no bearing on her as an opera singer.
Jussi Bjorling, the famous operatic tenor, was as short and squat, not attractive at all, but what an extraordinary voice. If you still think beauty is important to a singer, go listen to Samuel Ramey on YouTube. He's gorgeous, but he is also a brilliant opera singer. He would, however, have been a success in opera if he had been short, fat, bald, stoop-shouldered, bowlegged, cross-eyed, hunchbacked, and pigeon-toed.
- The fact that she is a "pop opera" singer doesn't have
anything to do with she being a soprano. I don't know where do you get the information from...
Who told you she is not trained? She started as an opera singer but yet she decided to carry on her career in a different way. There's nothing wrong with it and it doesn't mean she can't sing opera.
- chaconazo7, There's no need to be rude. All I stated was my
opinion that neither Sarah Brightman nor Charlotte Church have the voices for opera nor are they trained opera singers, and that they should not be singing opera. The fact that I'm not a performer doesn't mean that I can't have an informed opinion. You are the one who is embarassing yourself... with your rudeness, and your poor spelling and bad grammar.
- Sarah hits the notes well. May not be the "operatic sound"
people are expecting, but she sings it well in her way of singing music. She is a great singer period and plus she's beautiful.
- So.. redhead529 I'm sure you can sing it better. In what of
your CD's can i find your onw version ? or is that your pet eat them all. Get a life! Sarah Brightman or Charlotte Church may not been the opera singers, but hello this is an Aria not an opera. I'm sure they've studied more than you, don't embarrace yourself w/ your poor comments.
- Oops, misspelled, it's Olga Mykyntenko.
- @redhead529 - Oops, my mistake, I was confused by this video
- (didn't know her by face not having seeing her up close before). She did Zita here, not Lauretta, Olga Martynenko was Lauretta: /watch?v=QXV-SsMgSOo
- @jewelmarkess Which Blythe? Certainly not Stephanie. She's
a mezzo.
- @jewelmarkess Bravo! I agree with you completely!
