Comments on 'CF dawn raid on a Taliban compoud, video by Scott Kesterson' |
- "They're definately gonna wonder who the Canadians are from
here on out, that's for sure!"...hell ya. Kudos to Scott Kesterton for the great footage and to all our Canadian allies for the blood and sweat they give in Afghanistan! You guys rock!
- dont call me sir I work for a living, lol. no problem,
someones gotta dispel the dirbble that gets posted on here lol.

- ...easier and safer than letting them shoot back.
Anyhoo;
just want to add my appreciation to Mr. Kesterson in his superb footage of 'ma boyz'. And to all soldiers of every country serving today. Keep tight, lads, stay sharp. We who fought salute you who fight.

- Oh - looks like my reply idea doesn't work very well. OK,
I'll be brief, sorry. :) Anyway, bodies are found where the target fell - behind doors, in windows, etc. Rarely out in the open unless they're running. An assault is mad, tense and bewildering; the only thing that keeps it on track is the discipline of the soldiers and leadership of the NCO's. Folks have stated they see a lot of random fire - the whole point in an assault is to pump fire downrange to keep their heads down...
- I can assure you this is very real. I wasn't involved in
Afghanistan, my war ended in '93. But this is what the real thing looks like. There are no labels, no slowly-moving silhouetted enemy to shoot at. This is war; not a rifle range or video game. The enemy don't want to be shot any more than we do; and they are good fighters. Miserable soldiers, but good fighters. There is a difference.
You don't see bodies, because unlike war movies, they don't politely stack themselves up like cordwood...
- Just a quick note to Thanato: Just want to shake your hand,
Sir; you've been doing sterling service keeping this conversation on a respectful level. Too often the armchair critics and 'mom's basement' weenies take over with their usual drivel.
Now, let me add a few comments of my own. I'll need to reply to myself given the 500 character limit, but brevity has never been my strong suit. :)
To those that think this is staged, due to the lack of bodies/visible enemy:
- a good point. i had forgotten to take into account your
forces' much smaller size.
- Well I said US Army, but when it comes to the CF, it is our
smaller Land Forces that requires the infantry to be trained to fill in more roles.
The CF also trains all Soldiers in combat, by having them go through a 4 week soldier qualification after the 13+1 week Basic Military Qualification (which every member of the CF Does).
The US Army is comparable to circuit boards in a computer, one is broken replace it.
~Thanato
- actually they are, because marine infantry receives basic
level training on all available weaponry (all non-infantry marines do too. our mantra is "every marine a rifleman"), but i also think that's pretty standard in any well trained military so i'm sure both the canadian and american militaries do that
- Well, not all US infanteers (at least in the US ARmy) are
trained to use all weapons in their arsenal. If the Machine Gunner goes down its unlikely (unless its an SAW) that the rest would be able to effectivly operate it for an extended period of time yes in a battle just point and shoot but the maintance of the weapon ect. They would need to bring in someone to replace the MGer were as in teh CF they would replace the gap in the unit, but anyone in the section can still use and maintain the gun
- true to some extent, but specialization makes much of our
forces all the more effective. but do we have for example, Marine and Army infantry, which are essentially multi-use, "jack of all trade" combat troops only with somewhat overlapping responsibilities (Marines are more ship and helicopter-based assault forces while Army is more tank-based and built for occupation)
- Amen man, would be an honour to serve CADPAT next to
MARPAT.

- Force on Force actions the CF have won ever direct
engagement with the Taliban. The CF has Jack of all trades soldiers, were as the US has specific trade soldiers.
In the CF we can send 3 soldiers to do a task, were the US would require 8 or 9. This is nothing to say the lack of training, just the specifics of the training the US goes through. Its tunnel vision view of training.

- Delta Force is a Counter Terrorist Unit, they have the exact
same Mission as JTF-2, however JTF-2 had to be tasked with Recces in Afghanistan, and Direct Actions, that role is now being taken over by CSOR, so the JTF-2 can go back to more of a CT role however it is still a Teir 3 Special Operations unit, were as CSOR is a Teir 2, similar to the Rangers of the US Army.

- yeah fuck the taliban!! Good Work soldiers
- from an American Marine: thank you to all of the Canadians
serving alongside us in the fight against international jihad. they started it, but together we'll end it!
I'm from Pennsylvania, never been to Canada, but I trained with a bunch of your Army Cadets when I was in the Young Marines. our northern neighbors will forever be our brothers...
- only canadians say their forces are known to be the most
well trained, only a war provees how well the soldiers fight. I don't see them winning the afghan war
- It is commonly known in military circles that Canadian
regular force soldiers are of a much higher calibre than their multinational counterparts, and are often compared to special forces unit capabilities. Canadian special forces are of an even higher pedigree, having to maintain all disciplines not just one aspect such as Delta (urban) Green Beret (Rugged Terrains) etc.. JTF-2 covers all bases making them highly superior operators.
- again, where is the proof that canadian forces are the as
good as the special forces lol, its all just an assumption. Perhaps the military of thailand are best trained in te world
- we're small but lethal our military is equivalent to
americas speicla forces so basically we have jsut special forces and our special forces are, our SEALs, or SAS.
- canada does have small army but it will never big because
canadian politics forbids it.
- Canada has no army? Then what the fuck did you just watch? I
think you just watched this nonexistent army kick some Taliwhacker ass.
I hate pricks like allhailkingofthelose who think that the Canadians have no military. We do have one-it may not be as large or as well equipped as the Americans, but that probably has something to do with us having 30 million people and the US having 300 million. Our soldiers are elite and they kick ass and take names. That's the truth.
- great video. i was stationed in Paktia province and also
Kunar province (US Army). and yes, this is the Canadian Army.
- No shit dude, do you think the Taliban would care if a
Canadian died? It's the same in every war zone, everyone celebrates when they kill an enemy, and everyone mourns their dead.
- naw the guy at 1:50 is a section commander for 2 section, or
"bravo"
