- equilink? no offense but i'd stick with the brain.
- The peddling bob-forces are negated. Ride one.
- This actually doesn't sound like a bad idea for what's out
there. But chain tension is not the only factor in bobbing. In my experience WEIGHT and PEDALING are the main forces in bobbing.
- He repeats himself a bit and the people in the background
make quite a noice...nit picking!
Say what you want, the proof is in the riding. I have been on a Virtue1 (08) and Virtue2 (07) and can say with confidence that this is one of the best pedalling platforms. Compared to other FS bikes this bike squads and bob a lot less and is blindingly fast.
Definately wirth a test ride
- gears aren't gizmos...
- That's pretty interesting. I've often wondered how the
Equilink system worked. The theory is interesting but as others have said, what about the bob that orginates from the rider's weight loading and unloading the suspension during each crank rotation?
- Sorry but this guy has made me think about suspention in a
totaly diferent way, oh & yes you do get bob from a hardtail, its only fully rigid bikes that dont bob.
- is he wearing fake eyelashes?
- I can understand what he's saying but not all bob comes from
chain tension, a large amount comes from the rider bouncing up and down, that's why URTs still bob.
The only bikes that don't suffer with bob are hardtails.
- instead of bashing full suspension or hard tails, why not
just agree that Riding Is Good!! regardless of what kind of bike you have. whether you are a weight weenie with full carbon hardtail or a gravity junkie with 10in of travel in the frame, GO RIDE!! it's the best thing for mental health and well-being. just do it!
- Sold my Santa cruz superlight, I now ride hardtail..
singlespeed hardtail. One gear is all I need. no gizmos,
- just go out and ride.. whatever mtb you have, if you're out
and riding it, its all good.
- I have a full suss for fun and a hard tail when I want to go
fast
- crap
- yawn, i know sus would make me faster but my favourite quote
form MBUK (years ago now)
"rocks are hard, and hardtails rock"
- I will stick it with my blur...can you feel that.felt?
- Yawn, there goes my insomnia, ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
- hardtails have their merits, but the better traction from a
(well designed) full suspension bike makes a big difference.
Regarding this video, I don't really accept his explanation of how the suspension works... from an engineering point of view I still can't see how chain tug forces would result in equal-opposite forces going through the red link in ALL gear combinations. He sounds like he is just talking crap. But at least Felt are trying to do something different... good on them!
- well sorry im not a fucking pussy, i ride a hardtail and i
can probably ride better than you
- you obviously know absolutely nothing about suspension set
up.
- couldnt you just use a stiffer shock?
- he sutters alot
- the answer is theyre not needed in motorcycle world.
Bicycles have different characteristics, with human power to begin with, which is delivered at lower frequency (2-3 cranks per second & motorcycle engine turns at up to 10 or even more thousand revs per second), and this causes full suspension bikes to bob - a lot of rider's energy is wasted on suspension compression. Now I have one of those "overmarketed" gimmicks (Giant NRS) and it did make me faster, especially on rocky uphill sections.
- ya right!! THAT'S BECAUSE YOU DONT HAVE MONEY!!LOSER!!!!
- sorry but u'll get a wayyyy! better kick out of cycling on a
hard tail where as your going to miss out on alot of the bumps and humps which all and all make trail/downhill/mountain biking that bit more fun

(less)After nearly three years of extensive testing, evaluation, and R&D, a revolutionary and patented suspension technology named Equilink is born. The magic of the system lies within the red Equillink positioned vertically behind the seat tube. This innovative yet amazingly simple link counteracts weight transfer on its own, allowing the drivetrain to do only what it was meant to do; propel the rider forward. By equalizing the forces of acceleration and rider input, the suspension remains open and active while moving you forward with the greatest efficiency.
Fast - Unrivaled efficiency. No bob. No pedal kickback. Always predictable and consistent. Active in and out of the saddle. Sensitive to the smallest of bumps.
Simple -Tunability is an option -- not a requirement. No hard-to-find sweet spot. Whether it's initial set-up, on the trail adjustment, pro-tuning, and servicing, simplicity is what Equilink delivers.
Finally, a single suspension design platform that possesses it all, and one that can be applied to any riding discipline. Equilink technology has first been employed on our all-new Virtue series of high-performance Endurance/All-Mountain models delivering over 5" (130mm) of amazingly fluid and ultra-efficient travel. And you can be certain than more applications are on the way.
Revolutionary. Patented. Fast & Simple -- THE EQUILINK EXPERIENCE.
