Comments on 'Roy Buchanan - Down By The River (LIVE) ALBUM VERSION' |
- I've been listening to guitarists for 30 years, and this is
without a doubt one of the greatest performances i have ever heard- thanks for putting this up!
- I saw Roy a couple times in 1969 when he was still working
as a barber in Hyattsvile, Maryland. He used to do top 40 dance tunes at a blue collar bar; after the stone's hype he started playing rock clubs in DC and did more extended jams. Messiah will come again is how I always think of Roy. When he hung himself in the Arlington County jail, the Washington Post ran a 6 line story, had no clue who he was. God rest your soul roy.
- "You're Not Alone" is great also...
I saw Roy Live at the
Park West - Chicago in 1979. It was awesome. I had 1st row right in front of Roy and got a pick from him.
- thanks man! I'm going straight to amazon now! :-)
- I just worked up from first album ('Roy Buchanan) - you can
get it with 'Second Album' on one CD (amazon) - both albums are pretty mental + really enjoyed the live albums ('livestock & Live in Japan') as well - some pople prefer the 'Anthology' route - up to you + you should check out the book 'American Axe' by Phil Carson + Look for the 'Austin City Limits' - Hey Joe - (on youtube) - added about a week ago - a fine example of the genious at work.
- wow this is great!! I only heard the legend of Roy and now
it looks like I have to really get into his stuff. Where do I begin? anyone?
- Well its on Wikipedia also, will tell you off line the story
I heard, OK?
- maybe there was more too it
maybe he was just real depressed
and said "fuck it".
right there in the jail cell
- Some dispute whether he offed him self, lots of rumor about
Roys death. Its hard to believe he would hang himself over being in jail for drunk.
- If Roy does it for you check out my man Water Trout
- fuck. as soon as i heard dis i litt up my joint.. im prolly
still smoking one right now to this song.
- I thought Bloomfield died of a heroin overdose.
- Awesome!
- this is masterpiece playing from master hands, demonstration
of beauty here, that solo is amazing
- This is one of the few times, I have looked at the comments
and the vast majority are of intelligence, Thank you kindly.
- Just incredible. Thanks for posting.
- I know it's so sad to think of his death. Why do so many
great guitarists take commit suicide? Roy, Danny Gatton, and Mike Bloomfield come to mind. And all three were amazing guitarists. Damn!
- Wow I did not even know he was dead.....
I just recently
discovered him and now to day he really gives me the blues.....took his own life....dangit.....if I could play 1/10 as good as him I would be happy!
- Thanks for posting these! I stood 10 ft. from him for
back-to-back shows in 197? (hazy) at tiny Margarita's in Santa Cruz. Before the show I was standing next to his wife who was holding his tele and she handed it to me to attend to something(!) Never forget those shows.
Story goes he turned down the lead guitar slot for the Stones. What would possess him to take his own life? You can hear the cries in his playing.
- rmgj -- Thanks for appreciating. I only recently found out
that RB was dead. I was really disheartened. I remember that I was coming from a sacramental religious background and found that his pentecostal background was pretty bizarre; but I will never forget, even in that hazy-dazy time, how gracious and unassuming he was, generous, and calm ( not stoned or drunk ),just oddly calm. P.S. M Street, circa 1972, was a hot avenue for music -- it may still be, but I doubt it.
- Roy makes me feel like crying when I hear songs like this
and "messiah". Anyone who says white men don't have any call playing the blues don't know anything about Roy. A true and tragic artist.
- Ray's playin' is so nasty it'll make you smack yo
mommma...R.I.P. Ray Buchanan the legend
- Thank you for sharing this experience, for I had gotten the
wrong idea of him, he looks somewhat bitter on the3 videos, not many signs of being enjoying himself, thank you, again, and yes Ishould know better than judge a book, cheers¡¡
- Roy's solo is downright scarey.
- Also, one of the greatest unknown guitarists in history,
what a shame that more people dont know this truly masterful musician.
