That's the most literal translation
possible without getting too involved.

Mother do not bar me from this
love.
Whoever turns back unloaded boats that have left?
How foolish I was, not going with the boatman.
Compelled by love I dance, I dance.
Peacocks sing in the groves of love.
My beautiful beloved is my Kaba, my Qibla.
He injured me, then turned away.
Compelled by love I dance, I dance.
Bullhe Shah, I sit at Inayats door,
He clothed me in robes of green and red.
When I stamped my heel, I found him.
Compelled by love I dance, I dance.

O Physician, come back! my life is
ebbing away.
Compelled by love, I dance, I dance.
This love has set up camp inside me.
It is I, who filled the cup with this poison and drank it.
Come back right away, else, I will surely die.
Compelled by love, I dance, I dance.
The sun has set, its glow remains.
Grant me a sight of you again! I would die for it!
What a mistake I made, not going with you.
Compelled by love I dance, I dance.

welcome mam. May be somebody can give
u a better translation than mine :)
- @eumair360 thank you so much:)
- @Ladyoftheblacksea83
well first of all u r most welcome.
This song, actually, is abt the love of GOD and the singer does HIS praise... the meaning of what she says is that flame of fire n the flame of love r the same, flame of fire fire up anything in its way but the flame of (GOD'S) love put my heart to fire. if water can finish the flame of fire then what is their to finish the flame of love. YOUR(GOD'S) love makes me dance.
- Dear @eumair360 Thank you so much for your response. As u
can see I love all kinds of music. I have a whole section on my profile dedicated to world music. The way Abida sings the song is so soulful and true and that's what makes it rock out even if I can't understand it. Peace:)
- @Ladyoftheblacksea83
i can help you, but i m really
thinking tht if u r an outsider n dont know urdu n punjabi language, then how come u like it so much ?? u hv even ROCK OUT ... wow this song sure is amazing specially how she sings makes it even more special ..
- ok obviously you're no help to me,,, so why respond to me??
Not to mention that I have no interest in learning Urdu or Punjabi.... so... it would make "more sense" for some one who is a native speaker to help translate the song regardless..... A little FYI don't responsed to people unless you can't help with the situation.
- The literal translation makes it look Gay..
Go and learn
Urdu, then Punjabi, and then listen to the song...
- somebody has to translate this for me.
- dang!! sing it girlfriend!! I've never heard this version
before! ROCK OUT!!!
- priceless performance!
- The raw elemental power of her voice is the vehicle for the
Bulle Shah's poetry. It tugs at your heartstrings, brings tears to your eyes - the voice of love, lament and longing to join with the Supreme and be one with the Infinite of which all of us are a part.
If ever proof is needed that all borders are artificial and all differences between people are meaningless, it is my reactions to Abida Parveen.

- its all about falling in love with one God
- I dint understand the lyrics but I deserve to comment as I
have sensed the magic of her tone and the musicians playing...... I wish the spectators there had applauded more. thank you.
- what's deceiving about what she's saying? she's uttering
such beautiful words. there's nothing wrong with the wordings and the message being articulated, especially when done so beautfiully.
- gives me chills!
- this right here is the meaning of life.
- wow the opening was amazingggg... well the whole thing is,
but the opening... brillanttttt!!!
- abida parveen is a legend.
- she appears to be sufi herself
