Comments on 'Lindy Hop - Hellzapoppin (1941)' |
- I took a Lindey Hop dance class from Frankie Manning. The
MASTER and ORIGINATOR of all the wild moves of the Jitterbug since day one in Harlem!! Buy his video dance lesson course and learn his Lindey moves!
- You watch recent videos,
And NO-ONE is busting their lindy
hop with this kind of energy and rhythm.
Seriously badass

- Four Letters, One word.........DAMN!
- this movie is from hellzapoppin whats significant bout this
scene is that this the only scene u actually see blacks in it and they killed it! this scene is important because it killed blackface in musicals
- @0:38 he supermaned that hoe!
- do someone know which movie that is?
- Well this dancing scene which shows a Lindi- dance.....is
taken from a whole music scene from the motion picture "Hellzapoppin".....absolutely fantastic slapstick movie.....for our days slightly comical but for the 30´s it´s been too much....crazy crazy....but cool!!!!
- Yeow, blackclassics...that is as stupid and as racist as
saying, "I'm not surprised that there are black doctors and lawyers or black classical musicians." Get a grip.
- Funny, I went straight to the video and totally ignored the
title. Thanks. And I'm not surprised there were white lindy hoppers. Just like there are white hip-hop dancers. Can't get away from white folks. They are the germ that will NOT be disinfected.
- Take a look at the infos or the title. The clip has been
taken from the movie Hellzapoppin.
- @blackclassics The Film is Helzapoppin. As the title of the
video says. The Dancers are Whitey's Lindy Hoppers, choreographed by Frankie Manning. There had been a braodway show before the movie was mad which also featured whitey's lindy hoppers.
- I'm not sure which film this is from but I'm pretty sure
it's not just a random dance clip. You know, white Americans have been observing Black Americans for years. Some white director or writer knew about these dancers and thought it would be cool to feature it in his flick. They're wonderful and dressed as domestics so why wouldn't this be easy for a white audience to take? And if the story sucked at least the audience could point to ONE good scene.
- Omggg amazing hahaha nothing like danicng in our time...
- Coming up, I heard so many stories of my mom and her brother
doing these moves back in the day. It would be amazing if there were recordings of them. Beautiful energy here!
- @Jayroc88 no this scene has nothing to do with the rest of
the movie... this was common back in the post war era movies... i think they just put black performers in one scene to get some of the black movie goers to check out the movie, but i could be wrong... what's funny is that the movie is decent but this scene is the big stand out... it comes out of nowhere and i think at the end the star is like...we should put them in the show!!!
- nothin like this
- Awesome. Just Awesome!
- I think a lot of professional wrestling moves came out of
this. LOL
- Wow @ 1:24
- Breakdancing ain't got shit on the Lindy Hop!
- Check your messages
- looks like they were working and then took a break to dance
and the white people saw them and were enjoying it..but i think its just a dance clip, not a part of a movie or anything..
- i have to talk about blacks before the 70s black film era. I
just cant find nething bout this movie. I just wanted to know if this scene is significant because the characters all dressed in uniforms living up the stereotype but r the most talented ones on cameras I just wanted to clarify what was goin on
- Oh my goodness they look like they're on speed or something!
Must be so hard to learn.
