Comments on 'Milgram Experiment (Derren Brown)' |
- I wouldn't be a good test subject because I have hear of
this test, but I think I would probably give the full shock if I didn't know about it.
- @pianoman1189 you're right.
- What you are saying make no sense. Don't embarrasse yourself
in the future like that, please
- @TBlake34 If you can't conclude moral values from this
video, then where can you? This is one of the most revealing insights to human behavior.
- @kriskt Yeah... I'm still surprised that this study shows
the same results in the 21st century... I feel that EVERYBODY should be educated about the Milgrim experiment in order to prevent similar real-life situations like this from ever occurring.
- @dannyboy41 The original Milgrim experiment did not follow
up on the subjects after 3 months, so there is no data supporting that it causes prolonged psychological effects. It is considered unethical to perform it up to 450 volts in today's society.
- @StormWolf01 It is - it's limited to 250 volts now, which is
when the "learner" is supposed to stop responding. Not sure how Derren got around it...
- @37coolidge Notice that because you saw this video, you
would hopefully not act the same way that these normal people did if confronted with a situation similar to this. Knowledge of human nature, behaviors, and tendencies help mankind make good judgements and decisions.
- @37coolidge This is a re-enactment of the original Milgrim
experiments, which are certainly not fake. It's easy to watch this video and claim that you would not go all the way to 450 volts, but that is what psychologists call the fundamental attribution error. The FAE reveals that we tend to overestimate the importance of personality and underestimate the importance of the situation. Also, this shows hindsight bias, in that when the answer is already presented, it seems obvious.
- no they really didn't dude, this is the milgram experiment
:-|
- Of course, the truth of one position over the other has
nothing to do with which one is more persuasive or desirable.
- Atheists offer a worldview that offers only positive
reinforcement--the benefit of helping others. Theist offer a worldview that offers negative reinforcement--the fear of eternal punishment for non-belief--and positive reinforcement--the afterlife in paradise.
In this case, two reinforcements, both postive and negative, trumps one.
- stupid people in that time thought that germans are only
able to tortoure people....how poor the mind of the people was....
- Let me ask you, have you hear about the milgram experiement?
why would you think this is fake?
- God is the ultimate athority. religion itself is made to
function as an athority.
- @Mwlxhoir40: Oh, so you wouldn´t catigorise priests as
athority figures?
- @MrFelixify no, there must be another reason
- Derren Brown uses stooges in some of his tricks, but this
one was real.
- ? but no one actually got a shock. not in the milgram
experiment either. how could you miss that? thats the whole point of the experiment. Actors pretending to be shocked to see if the subjects (the ones thinking they are the teachers) would administrade deadly shocks if a athoroty figure tells them its ok.
- because guy with wierd hats reading an old book is telling
them not to? :)
- i have a feeling that all the participants knew what they
were doing and that the whole episode was staged ( in other words all the people on the show knew that they weren't really doing anything to the guy in the other room) in order to make good television. That is the sad part
- @williedla it was completely criticized for being
unethical...not that the media cares about that
- So the majority of people will administer lethal electric
shocks just because a guy in a white coat is telling them to.
But the majority of people haven't yet adopted atheism just because some guys in white coats are telling them to. Why is that?
- What this teaches is not that people are inherently
obedient, but that people should be educated about how morals are more important than obedience to authority.
- amps kill you, not volts... some t.a.z.e.r.s are around
